Honduras advances negotiations for the purchase of vaccines

The Minister of Health, Alba Consuelo Flores, reported this Tuesday that Honduras already has advanced negotiations with four pharmaceutical companies to purchase the vaccine against Covid-19.

“Definitely all the week before and yesterday we finished forming all the teams that will accompany the Ministry of Health in the process of purchasing vaccines, negotiations that will be carried out bilaterally with pharmaceutical companies to have a number of vaccines in addition to the one we have with the Covax mechanism, ”said Flores.

The official explained that possibly during the week there will be positive information for the population, since according to the conversations they have had with several companies, the first vaccines could be had in the country in March.

She indicated that this is good news to start the vaccination process in the prioritized groups that has been initially determined and continue throughout the year with the subsequent population.

The official pointed out that these confidentiality letters will definitely be being answered during the week, so they have already been organized, there is an Advisory Council, also with the support of the Platform against Covid-19, the Court Accounts Superior (TSC), in addition an Oversight Council has been organized that will accompany the Ministry of Health throughout this process.

The head of Health, pointed out that at the time they will be informing the population of how this process will be carried out, which seeks to do it in the most transparent way and in the most timely manner from the Ministry of Health.

“We have also spoken directly with AstraZeneca, Phizer, Moderna, and Sputnik V, which is a Russian vaccine among them, and we continue to talk even with other companies to see how we are favored, we know that this is a global competition and that there are already 30 countries that are having this vaccine, but the rest of the world remains and we hope and trust in God that Honduras will be favored, ”said Flores.

She added that between today and tomorrow there will be a response to the confidentiality letters, hence the next step is to review the prices, the quality, the effectiveness of the vaccine and then the contractual conditions.

Covax mechanism

Flores, said that “I would like to correct because precisely this week your server will also be receiving the letter confirming the number of vaccines that will be introduced and the date that we would probably be thinking is also the last week of March where you enter the first batch to the country ”.

“Definitely in the last letter I received the minimum that could be introduced was approved, we were told that for the last week of the quarter it could also be entering, this week we are waiting for confirmation and we trust God that also through this mechanism the Secretariat of Health together with Finance we are working in a unified collective way with the other Advisory Councils for the entry of these vaccines ”, he added.

At Flores’ discretion, the vaccines will be obtained through the Covax mechanism and through purchases for the last week of March there would be a possible entry of the first batch.

However, until this week there will be official confirmation of the number of doses that will arrive, however, the important thing is to start with the immunization of the population.

Finally, the head of Health stressed that since the beginning of the year they have been working to obtain the vaccine against COVID-19, and there are already results and it is predicted that the Covax mechanism will also be favored, since it has had a It fights working with more than 90 developing countries to achieve these doses, which is why it is expected that this will be favored by pharmaceutical companies.
