La presidenta de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, Elizabeth Odio Benito, llamó al diálogo a los representantes del Gobierno y las víctimas en la audiencia celebrada en San José para revisar el cumplimento de las medidas adoptadas por la Corte en ocho comunidades indígenas del territorio Wanky Twi Tasba Raya, en el municipio de Waspam en el Caribe Norte.

La alcaldesa de Waspam, Rose Cuningham, presentó ante el honorable tribunal el informe del Gobierno sobre el trabajo que realizan en esas comunidades indígenas donde se han desarrollado encuentros con los representantes legítimos de estos territorios, pero también se ha avanzado en conversaciones con los no indígenas para buscar una solución al conflicto.

Uno de los casos mencionados por la alcaldesa fue la detención y puesta ante los tribunales de personas no indígenas que están condenados a tres años de prisión por usurpación de dominio comunitario en Waspam.

Por su parte los miembros de CEJIL y CEJUDCAN llevaron a un juez y un concejal para exponer la problemática ante los jueces de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos.

El juez Humberto Antonio Sierra Porto, pidió un inventario de los hechos específicos con detalles de los asesinatos, secuestros, amenazas, lesiones, violaciones sexuales, desplazamiento, invasiones, seguridad alimenticia, pero en concreto para poder tomar acciones y revisar si se están cumpliendo las medidas adoptadas por la Corte en relación a las ocho comunidades indígenas del Wanky Twi.

El juez Patricio Pazmino Freire pidió que se aclare si las personas que llegaron a declarar son legítimas.

La alcaldesa de Waspam, señaló que las personas pueden ser autoridades de una comunidad, pero no representan a las ocho comunidades, del territorio, refiriéndose al Gobierno Territorial Indígena que es acreditado por el Consejo Regional del Caribe Norte.

La representacion de Cejil y Cejudcan solicitaron que se respete la intergidad de las personas que participaron en la audiencia, ya que según ellos han sido amenazadas en redes sociales.

La alcaldesa Rose Cuningham reiteró que en Nicaragua hay libertad de circulación y en ningún momento se ha perseguido a personal de este organismo no gubernamental en estas comunidades.

Los jueces tuvieron dos informes completamente diferentes Cejil y CEJUDCAN presentaron un informe y el Estado de Nicaragua presentó otro.

Al finalizar la audiencia la presidenta Elizabeth Odio, llamó a un diálogo a las partes para buscar una solución a la situación de estas comunidades.
