The 71st Nicaraguan Caribbean Series is dedicated to Rosa María Reyes Mairena in Rosita

The edition of the series number 71 that will be held in two municipalities Rosita and Bonanza in the Mining Triangle from April 20 to May 1, 2022, will be dedicated to a woman who has given part of her life to Rosita’s baseball, in the North Caribbean Cota Autonomous Region.

We are talking about Rosa María Reyes Mairena, who for more than 18 years has been the delegate of Rosita’s team in the Nicaraguan Caribbean Series and is the only woman delegate of a baseball team.

Rosa María was born in Rosita, on April 10, 1967, she is mestizo, mother of 3 children, Francisca, Tania and Everth.

María Reyes Mairena entered the world of baseball in 2003 when her only son Everth began to play in the children’s leagues, that same year she was elected prosecutor of the major baseball federation A de Rosita, being in this position she made her first trip to the Atlantic series, where she was named alternate delegate, since then she has been in each series, but as a delegate of her Rositeño team she was until 2004, that same year she was elected president of the baseball federation of the municipality of Rosita, position which he currently occupies.

The sports leader of Rosita assured that since the women took the reins of the baseball federation, it has improved a lot since before her, Mrs. Esteban Rostran was also in that position, who did an excellent role at the head of the baseball federation of Rosita.

The president of Rosita’s baseball federation recalls that support for Rosita’s team began to decline since Rosita won her last championship in 1968 to the extent that, in some years, any available player was picked up two days before to travel to the series, without any training. The players traveled only to meet the game schedule and to know the venue of the next series.

The performances of Rosita’s team from the year 2003 were very remarkable because Rosita has remained in the first three places and several times they have reached the runner-up position in Siuna, Kukra Hill, Puerto Cabezas and Rosita says the sports director with complete certainty.

I emphasize that from his position he has gotten along very well with the team members to the point of suffering the discomfort they have had in some series and he had to sleep with the team.

María Reyes says that baseball has taken away time for her family, but since she has a family that understands her, she announced that she wants to retire in 2022.

The sports leader pointed out that they have taken on the challenge of serving the different delegations from both the North and the South.

«It has not been easy, but we are going to give our best, thanks to the support we have received from the authorities of the Sandinista Government, this year will be a great party and we hope to win the championship» I affirm with certainty.
