HEMCO promueve prácticas de minería bien hecha

Para facilitar el bienestar de todos.

Con el objetivo de practicar una minería bien hecha HEMCO, la empresa del grupo colombiano Mineros en Nicaragua promueve diferentes proyectos de desarrollo humano, seguridad, ordenamiento de la minería artesanal, relaciones comunitarias y medio ambiente. Todas estas experiencias fueron compartidas durante la Feria Minera 2021 Cemento, Concreto y Agregados que organiza la Cámara Minera de Nicaragua (Caminic).

La participación de HEMCO en el evento destacó las iniciativas de la empresa minera en cultura de seguridad, con capacitaciones constantes e inversiones importantes para garantizar el bienestar de los más de 1,480 colaboradores. Gracias a esto, expresó Carlos Mario Gómez Peláez, Presidente de HEMCO, se redujo la accidentalidad en 61.03% con relación al 2019, y 71.89% con respecto al 2018.

“En HEMCO sabemos que nuestra gente vale oro y su seguridad es lo primero. Por eso constantemente capacitamos a nuestros colaboradores para que respeten los protocolos y normas establecidas y promovemos el autocuidado entre todos. Además, apostamos a la formación del talento humano desde la Escuela Minera de HEMCO y ofrecemos beneficios para ellos y sus familias, como programas de alfabetización, becas de estudio, entre otros”, destacó Gómez Peláez.

La meta de una minería bien hecha, también es posible sólo a través de una actividad responsable con el medio ambiente, por lo que gracias a su gestión ambiental, HEMCO promueve el manejo responsable de los desechos, la reforestación y la educación ambiental entre colaboradores, proveedores y la comunidad en general.

“Porque queremos Bonanza para rato, impulsamos una serie de iniciativas que permitan la conservación de los recursos naturales en la comunidad. Con el fin de conservar las fuentes hídricas, en 2010 creamos Wastuna, la primera reserva silvestre privada, para la cual destinamos 130 hectáreas y está ubicada donde nacen los ríos Aguas Claras y Concha Urrutia, los cuales abastecen de agua a los bonanceños”, explicó Diana Sernaitis, Superintendente de Medio Ambiente.

Además, la empresa cuenta con un complejo sanitario para procesar y gestionar 1,000 toneladas de residuos al año. En años recientes se han suscrito alianzas con mineros artesanales para reforestar 91 hectáreas en áreas de Bonanza y sembrar más de 76 mil plantas nativas.

La empresa, que emplea en su mayoría a personas originarias del Caribe Norte de Nicaragua, también promueve una visión de bienestar para todos, lo que incluye a la comunidad. Desde 2008 y en coordinación con la Alcaldía de Bonanza, impulsa el Plan de Ordenamiento de Desarrollo Urbano (Podu), se han desarrollado más de 30 proyectos sociales con énfasis en educación, salud, infraestructura, cultura, deporte y recreación.

De esta iniciativa, nació también el Plan de Ordenamiento de la Minería Artesanal conocido como Modelo Bonanza, por medio del cual HEMCO, y las autoridades locales realizan esfuerzos por el desarrollo de la minería artesanal bajo normativas de seguridad y medio ambiente.

“Somos aliados del minero artesanal para mejorar su seguridad, conocimientos y capacidades técnicas. A través de nuestros planteles de uso exclusivo para la minería artesanal, procesamos mineral de forma justa, segura y sostenible y demostramos que se puede hacer una mejor minería”, sostuvo Carlos Mario Gómez Peláez, Presidente de HEMCO.

En 2020, HEMCO se situó como uno de los 10 exportadores más importantes de Nicaragua y registró una producción de más de 123 mil onzas troy.

From this initiative, the Artisanal Mining Ordinance Plan known as the Bonanza Model was also born, through which HEMCO and the local authorities make efforts to develop artisanal mining under safety and environmental regulations.
