Nicaraguan government promotes seed banks in the Mining Triangle to secure seeds

The Government of Nicaragua, through the System of Production, Consumption and Commerce, have displaced INTA technicians from the Caribbean communities to sow corn seed in the so-called seed banks that are promoted to ensure quality seeds to producers in the region. and the country.

Heidi Marisela Arteta, a producer from the Danlí Central community, along with two more women and eight men, set out to plant, with precise instructions from INTA technician Haroldo Casells, an apple of corn, in rows to increase productivity.

Marisela Arteta said that first they organized themselves, to throw the canvases in the area since this time they did not sow in the traditional way to have better productivity, and that way applying the fertilizer will be easy.

Kenia Alma Gadea, a producer from the Danlí community, said that they first organized themselves to clad and plant the rice, but now they are working on planting maize in a more technical way.

José Wilmer Ortega Arteta, producer from the Danlí Central community, said that they were used to traditionally sowing as they call mateado, a measure is more or less between kills and kills, instead with this technique it goes in rows, in line with a distance of 90 cm between furrow and furrow and 40 centimeters between bush and bush.

Ronaldo Maldonado Arauz, a producer from the Danlí Central community, said that through the technician they were located and in this way they met and organized a bank to have the adequate seed to sow in those lands.

Heidi Marisela Arteta, said that the seed came at a good time because with the two hurricanes that hit the Caribbean they lost their seeds.

Kenya’s Alma Gadea said they are taking advantage of the government’s help to plant in their areas.

Haroldo Casells, a technician from INTA in Triángulo Minero, said that they are working with 12 producers in a corn seed bank, with the aim of making quality seed available in each community.

The Government of Nicaragua is giving Nicaraguan producers about 175 thousand productive bonds in different areas, in the Mining Triangle 4 thousand 500 productive bonds will be delivered that come to encourage production and activate the economy and food sovereignty.
