Trump criticizes his supporters for erecting a flawed wall

The US president, through a tweet, has criticized the actions of the group founded by Brian Kolfage, one of his supporters, after the private wall he built in South Texas began to show signs of erosion after only months of its construction. .

“I did not agree to make this very small (tiny) section of the wall, in a complicated area, by a private group that raised money with ads. It was only made to make me look bad, and it might not even work. It should have been built like the rest of the wall, 500 more miles, ”said Trump.

Fisher Industries, responsible for the construction of the wall, has excused itself from the criticism, affirming that the president must have been misinformed and reiterating the respect they feel towards Trump. Tommy Fisher, the CEO of Fisher industries, had won several contracts for the construction of the wall in the past. In 2019, he obtained a contract of 400 million dollars after several appearances on Fox and, this year, Trump himself supported him in awarding the contract with the highest estimated cost to date for the construction of the wall, 1.3 billions of dollars.

However, the built wall poses quite a few problems. Firstly, the erosion it has suffered returns to dangerous infrastructure, secondly, the wall rises 10 meters away from the Rio Grande, violating the Rio Grande Treaty. But, above all, the construction of the wall is not going to stop the influx of immigrants to the United States.

The wall Trump has been vowing to build since 2016 only gets immigrants looking for more dangerous ways to access the United States. Not only does it not solve the problem, but it also potentially kills thousands of people.

The NGO Border Angels or Ángeles de la Frontera reveals that according to data from border patrols, 7,209 immigrants have died in the last 20 years trying to cross. However, a USA Today investigation that includes human remains found by different organizations raises the figures between 25 and 300% on the data of border patrols, which applied to the 20-year period would translate to 9,100 to 29,000 deaths.

More humane policies are needed to manage the plight of immigrants and the alleged negative repercussions on the US economy and work environment that are so much feared rather than opting for an easy route that will kill thousands of people.
