HEMCO entrega donativo para familias afectadas por Iota y Eta

La empresa minera donó paquetes con alimentos básicos y materiales para reconstrucción de viviendas.

La empresa minera HEMCO, con presencia en el Caribe Norte de Nicaragua, está entregando 500 paquetes de alimentos y material de apoyo para la reconstrucción de viviendas al mismo número de familias afectadas por los huracanes Iota y Eta.

La donación está dirigida a habitantes de Bonanza, Rosita y Prinzapolka, mineros artesanales y colaboradores de la empresa que son originarios de la zona.

Carlos Mario Gómez Peláez, Presidente de HEMCO, indicó que la iniciativa es parte de la visión de la empresa de trabajar por el bienestar de todos y busca contribuir a la reconstrucción de las áreas afectadas.

“Desde el pasado 23 de noviembre, estamos entregando esta ayuda que busca aliviar las necesidades de las familias afectadas por los recientes huracanes.

Entre los insumos donados hemos apoyado con víveres, leche en polvo, agua potable y materiales como láminas de zinc, plástico, clavos, martillos, guantes y combustible.

Para ello hemos estado en coordinación con las autoridades locales que forman parte del Comité Municipal para la Prevención, Mitigación y Atención a Desastres”, agregó el Presidente de la empresa. “Como empresa orgullosamente costeña que cree en el bienestar para todos y que valora la solidaridad y el apoyo mutuo, creemos que sólo juntos saldremos adelante; por eso, hemos realizado este esfuerzo significativo para ayudar a quienes lo necesitan y así, avanzar como una sola comunidad”, expresó Gregorio Downs, Gerente de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial de HEMCO.

Mauricio Simón Castro, de 35 años y originario de la comunidad indígena mayangna Sakalwas, es una de las personas beneficiadas y se encuentra más que feliz de poder recibir este apoyo que lo ayudará a salir adelante, ya que a su edad cuenta que nunca había visto algo igual.

“Eta no fue tan fuerte en Bonanza, pero Iota fue temible. Azotó de noche y no podíamos ni salir por el riesgo que significaba. En esos días, mi esposa y mi hijo estaban en Managua, pero a mi niña tuve que mandarla a un albergue con mi mamá.

Yo me quedé cuidando la casa. Fue una experiencia terrible, los vientos eran tan fuertes que parecía que iban a tirar la casa”, cuenta Castro quien labora en el área de montaje industrial de la empresa. Simón cuenta que una vez pasado el huracán vio cómo varias láminas de zinc del techo de su vivienda se habían desprendido, al igual que la cocina.

“Gracias al apoyo de HEMCO, voy a poder levantar mi casita de nuevo”, agregó. “En momentos como estos es cuando debemos unir esfuerzos para el bienestar de todos.

Por eso, también apoyamos a otras organizaciones como la Cruz Roja y Operación Sonrisa para ampliar el alcance de este esfuerzo”, aseguró el Gerente de RSE de HEMCO.

Mauricio Simón Castro, 35 years old and originally from the Mayangna Sakalwas indigenous community, is one of the people who benefited and is more than happy to receive this support that will help him get ahead, since at his age he tells that he had never seen Something like.

“Eta wasn’t that strong in Bonanza, but Iota was scary. It hit at night and we couldn’t even go out because of the risk it entailed. In those days, my wife and son were in Managua, but I had to send my daughter to a shelter with my mother.

I stayed looking after the house. It was a terrible experience, the winds were so strong that it seemed they were going to blow the house down, ”says Castro, who works in the company’s industrial assembly area. Simón says that once the hurricane had passed, he saw how several sheets of zinc from the roof of his house had come off, as had the kitchen.

«Thanks to the support of HEMCO, I will be able to build my little house again,» he added. “At times like these is when we must join forces for the welfare of all.

For this reason, we also support other organizations such as the Red Cross and Operation Smile to expand the scope of this effort ”, assured the HEMCO CSR Manager.
