Siuna realiza lanzamiento del censo nutricional marca el inicio de una lucha por la salud
Con el objetivo de combatir la creciente problemática de la obesidad infantil, el sector minero de Siuna ha dado un paso al frente con el lanzamiento del censo nutricional departamental. Esta iniciativa, impulsada por el Ministerio de Salud (MINSA) y el Ministerio de Educación (MINED), busca evaluar el estado nutricional de más de 69 mil niños y niñas de 0 a 14 años en toda la región.
El lanzamiento, que tuvo lugar en Siuna, contó con la presencia de autoridades locales y representantes de diversas instituciones educativas. Henry Almanza, subdirector del Sistema Local Integral de Salud (SILAIS), destacó la importancia de este censo, que abarcará 870 escuelas en el sector minero. “Cumpliendo con las orientaciones de la jefatura nacional, realizamos este lanzamiento departamental en Siuna, donde esperamos censar a unos 69 mil niños y niñas”, afirmó Almanza.
Yesenia Coleman, del MINED, explicó que el censo se centrará en la medición del peso y la talla de los niños, con el fin de identificar aquellos que presentan obesidad o sobrepeso. “De esta forma, podremos trabajar con ellos, brindándoles recomendaciones y promoviendo la adopción de hábitos alimenticios saludables”, señaló Coleman.
La actividad contó con la participación entusiasta de estudiantes de diferentes centros educativos de Siuna, quienes desfilaron portando frutas y verduras, enviando un mensaje claro sobre la importancia de consumir alimentos nutritivos. El personal del MINSA también se sumó a la iniciativa, exhibiendo una variedad de alimentos saludables y compartiéndolos con los niños al finalizar el evento.
Además del lanzamiento, se llevó a cabo el proceso de talla y pesaje de los niños en el centro deportivo Omar Mercado Silva de Siuna, marcando el inicio formal del censo nutricional. Esta actividad es crucial para recopilar datos precisos sobre el estado nutricional de la población infantil y diseñar estrategias efectivas para combatir la obesidad.

With the aim of combating the growing problem of childhood obesity, the mining sector of Siuna has taken a step forward with the launch of the departmental nutritional census. This initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and the Ministry of Education (MINED), seeks to evaluate the nutritional status of more than 69 thousand children from 0 to 14 years of age throughout the region.
The launch, which took place in Siuna, was attended by local authorities and representatives of various educational institutions. In addition to the launch, the process of measuring the children’s height and weight was carried out at the Omar Mercado Silva sports center in Siuna, marking the formal start of the nutritional census. This activity is crucial to collecting accurate data on the nutritional status of the child population and designing effective strategies to combat obesity.
