Autoridades del Ministerio de Recursos Naturales y el Medio Ambiente Marena inauguraron el primer zoo criadero de Guardatinaja, gwia o Guardiola, en la finca Las Piedrecitas de la familia Andino Aguinaga en la comunidad de Mongallo, jurisdicción de Siuna en el Caribe Norte

Reynaldo Pérez director general de patrimonio natural del Marena, dijo que Mongallo que se inauguró un zoo criadero más como parte de la estrategia nacional tu biodiversidad, solución basada en la naturaleza, el cual consiste en la declaración de estas alternativas económicas basada en la naturaleza, que permite que la familia pueda tener otros ingresos económicos.

Pérez dijo que con este zoo criadero ya van 19 zoo criaderos declarados a nivel nacional, y trabajan en poder tener en todo el país uno 134 zoo criaderos en total.

Gustavo Andino Aguinaga, hijo de los dueños del zoo criadero dijo que iniciaron hace 16 años en la idea de conservar la especie porque era muy bonita y con la pérdida del bosque y la caza se ha venido en peligro de extinción.

Su papa comenzó con una pareja y en el proceso se dieron cuenta que en el año se reproduce una vez al año y por eso cree que se ha ido extinguiendo porque su proceso de reproducción es muy lento.

En el zoo criadero han llegado a tener hasta 24 guardiolas, pero que han vendido a los vecinos de la finca y a otras personas que han llegado de <Matagalpa, Rio Blanco a comparar para conservarlas.

La Guardiola también se conocer con el nombre de la paca común, lapa o tepezcuintle ​​ es una especie de roedor histricomorfo de la familia Cuniculidae.
