Awastingni conmemora fallo con marchas y panel internacional

Autoridades comunitarias de Awastingni conmemoraron este  31 de Agosto de 2020,  19 años de la sentencia de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos en el caso Awastingni vs Estado de Nicaragua, en la Region Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Norte.

Los indígenas Mayangnas lo hicieron con  tambores, marchas por el centro de la comunidad con pancartas mensajes relacionados con el significado de la sentencia y su importancia.

Además realizaron charlas educativas con los estudiantes, por los líderes y actores vivos del proceso de internacionalización del caso Awastingni, así como las brechas de la implementación de la sentencia.

Paralelamente se llevó a cabo un panel virtual internacional sobre el Caso Awastingni y una recién sentencia de la Corte IDH, caso Lhaka Honhat 132 comunidades indígenas de Argentina.

En el panel participaron los juristas indígenas: Dr. Felipe Gómez Isa vicedecano de la Universidad Deusto España Bilbao, Candidata PhD Julie Weterslaw Instituto Europeo Universitario, Lic. Larry Salomon Pedro miembro de la comunidad Mayangna asesor jurídico de CEDEA, Mtra. Erika Schmidhuber Peña. Litigante Internacional y trabaja para Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales.

El panel fue moderado por Carolina De Leon, Coordinadora del Programa de Experto en Derechos Humanos de los Pueblos Indígenas, de la Universidad de Deusto Bilbao, España.

Los panelistas hicieron una análisis exhaustivo de los dos casos, las lecciones aprendidas y las recomendaciones de continuidad de las luchas e impactos de la sentencias judiciales, las victorias jurídicas que en gran medida es fundamental el rol de los actores civiles y la organización, empoderamiento y cohesión comunitaria.

Ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora y la profundización de las luchas y desafíos de los pueblos indígenas.

Awastingni commemorates ruling with marches and international panel

Community authorities of Awastingni commemorated this August 31, 2020, 19 years of the judgment of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in the case Awastingni vs. State of Nicaragua, in the Autonomous Region of the North Caribbean Coast.

The indigenous Mayangnas did it with drums, marches through the center of the community with banners, messages related to the meaning of the sentence and its importance.

They also held educational talks with the students, by the leaders and living actors of the internationalization process of the Awastingni case, as well as the gaps in the implementation of the sentence.

At the same time, an international virtual panel was held on the Awastingni Case and a recent judgment of the Inter-American Court, the Lhaka Honhat case of 132 indigenous communities in Argentina.

Indigenous jurists participated in the panel: Dr. Felipe Gómez Isa vice dean of the Universidad Deusto Spain Bilbao, PhD Candidate Julie Weterslaw European University Institute, Lic. Larry Salomon Pedro, member of the Mayangna community, legal advisor to CEDEA, Mtra. Erika Schmidhuber Peña. International Litigator and works for the Center for Legal and Social Studies.

The panel was moderated by Carolina De Leon, Coordinator of the Expert Program on Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples, University of Deusto Bilbao, Spain.

The panelists made an exhaustive analysis of the two cases, the lessons learned and the recommendations for the continuity of the struggles and impacts of the judicial decisions, the legal victories that to a great extent the role of civil actors and the organization, empowerment and community cohesion.

It has been an enriching experience and the deepening of the struggles and challenges of indigenous peoples.
