A century of evangelization of the Baptist church in Nicaragua

Mount Zion Baptist Church celebrates one hundred years of foundation in Nicaragua. It was founded by the Rev. David Thomson, (q.e.p.d) on August 19, 1920.

The first evangelistic celebrations were held in the Beholdeen neighborhood at the home of Waldo Tam (q.e.p.d), initially it was called Mount Olivet and after a year and until today the name of the church is «Mount Zion Baptist Church».

Pastor Eli Simeon Hodgson, since 2013 has remained at the head of the church, he tells us part of the history that the church has lived, which is summarized in a long road with ups and downs, managing to overcome difficulties, «the The covid-19 pandemic is one of them, that is why we decided to hold a great celebration for these one hundred years until the beginning of 2021, where we expect many who made the church possible to attend ”, expressed Pastor Eli.

This Sunday, August 23, they will hold a mass of appreciation for the centenary

Throughout these hundred years the church has expanded in communities in the Autonomous Region of the South Caribbean Coast, such as Corn Island, Kukra Hill, Awas and Hanover and they have about 800 members.

“We have been growing steadily, serving and accompanying the Nicaraguan Caribbean people with the gospel of Jesus Christ but also through an educational institution in Bluefields, which has been a fundamental base that has provided human resources with moral values, principles and with qualified capacities that contribute to the development of the country ”, highlighted Pastor Eli.

In these hundred years we can mention some bastions that were at the forefront of the church, most of them have died including the Rev. Smith of the United States, the Rev. Fernando Downs, originally from Corn Island, the Rev. Guilbert Bent, the Rev. Orlando Rigby, Pastor Austin Lewis, Deacon Eddie Clair, and current Pastor Eli Simeon.

Un siglo de evangelización de la iglesia Bautista en Nicaragua

La iglesia Bautista Mount Zion, celebra cien años de fundación en Nicaragua. Fue fundada por el Rev. David Thomson, (q.e.p.d) el 19 de agosto de 1920.

Las primeras celebraciones evangelistas se realizaron en el barrio Beholdeen en casa de Waldo Tam (q.e.p.d), inicialmente se llamó Mount Olivet y después de un año y hasta hoy el nombre de la iglesia es «Mount Zion Baptist Church”.

El Pastor Eli Simeon Hodgson, desde el año 2013 ha permanecido al frente de la iglesia, nos relata parte de la historia que ha vivido la iglesia, la que se resume en un camino largo con altos y bajos, logrando superar las dificultades, “la pandemia del covid-19, es una de ellas, por eso decidimos hacer una gran celebración por estos cien años hasta inicios del 2021, donde pretendemos que muchos que hicieron posible la iglesia asistan”, expreso el pastor Eli.

Este domingo 23 de agosto realizarán una misa de agradecimiento por el centenario

A lo largo de estos cien años la iglesia se ha expandido en comunidades de la Región Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Sur, como Corn Island, Kukra Hill, Awas y Hanover y cuentan con unos ochocientos miembros.

“Hemos venido creciendo de manera sostenida, sirviendo y acompañando al pueblo del Caribe nicaragüense con el evangelio de Jesucristo pero también a través de una institución educativa en Bluefields, que ha sido una base fundamental que ha facilitado recursos humanos con valores morales, principios y con capacidades calificadas que aportan al desarrollo del país”, destacó el pastor  Eli.

En estos cien años se pueden mencionar algunos baluartes que estuvieron al frente de la iglesia en su mayoría han fallecido entre ellos el Rev. Smith de los Estados Unidos, el Rev. Fernando Downs, originario de Corn Island, el Rev. Guilbert Bent, el Rev. Orlando Rigby, el pastor Austin Lewis, Diácono Eddie Clair y el actual pastor Eli Simeon.
