PMA ratifica apoyo para atender a familias afectadas por huracanes

El director regional del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (PMA) para América Latina y el Caribe, Miguel Barreto, se encuentra en Nicaragua y reafirmó el compromiso de ese organismo de seguir apoyando a las familias afectadas por el paso de los huracanes Iota y Eta.

Barreto arribó la mañana de este 9 de diciembre al Aeropuerto Internacional Augusto C. Sandino, en Managua y minutos después sostuvo una reunión con el Canciller Denis Moncada Colindres.

El canciller expresó que la actividad realizada por el PMA en Nicaragua ha sido muy positiva, que tiene que ver con la seguridad alimentaria, avituallamiento y elementos necesarios para la situación provocada por Iota y ETA.

“Nicaragua siempre recibe al PMA de la manera más fraterna, también más amistosa, y agradecerles ese papel positivo, constructivo, solidario, fraterno que Georgia, la representante de ustedes acá y el equipo, todo el equipo, han desarrollado”, dijo Moncada.

Moncada aseguró que el PMA con Nicaragua mantiene excelentes relaciones, de mucho apoyo y solidaridad, en tiempos normales y de emergencias y situaciones extraordinarias como la provocada por los dos huracanes.

“Nuestra relación con el PMA es una relación positiva, muy positiva, muy exitosa, de mucho acompañamiento del PMA para Nicaragua, sobre todo en lo relacionado con la seguridad alimentaria”, apuntó.

Por su parte, el Sr. Barreto manifestó que el jueves tendrán la oportunidad de visitar las zonas afectadas por los huracanes.

“Yo quiero trasladar mi solidaridad, la solidaridad del Director Ejecutivo del Programa Mundial de Alimentos por lo que ha ocurrido, dos huracanes consecutivos de categoría 4 y 5 es, sin duda un impacto complejo, particularmente cuando pasan por la misma área”, indicó.

Continuará apoyo

A la vez reiteró el compromiso del PMA en continuar acompañando y “felicitarlos también, porque el trabajo que ustedes han hecho en términos de preparación, preposicionamiento con nosotros ha permitido que la respuesta sea mucho más ágil, rápida y eficiente en la respuesta socorro de manera inmediata”.

“Mi presencia responde, no solamente a trasladarle la solidaridad nuestra y el compromiso nuestro, sino también, para mí es importante porque mañana el PMA recibe el Premio Nobel de la Paz y estar en Nicaragua en una zona afectada por desastres naturales sin duda tiene un doble significado para mí como Director Regional y para el PMA también, mostrando lo que hacemos”, agregó.

Igualmente, indicó que “vamos a seguir colaborando con ustedes, vamos a seguir buscando recursos, para seguir apoyando a la gente necesitada a través de ustedes y en coordinación con el Gobierno planificamos trabajar con ustedes para poder responder por los próximos 90 días todavía hay gente afectada y voy a acompañarlos también en la fase de recuperación”.

El director regional del PMA manifestó que también reflejarán el trabajo conjunto que se ha tenido en Nicaragua en conjunto al Gobierno no solamente en el área de emergencias, sino en aspectos como la alimentación escolar, lo que continuará en los próximos años.

Felicitaciones por Premio Nobel de la Paz

Por su parte, el canciller Moncada felicitó al PMA por recibir mañana el Premio Nobel de la Paz, “merecido premio para una organización internacional de mucha proyección humanitaria y solidaria en el mundo, en el campo internacional, y en Nicaragua se expresa de una forma tangible, visible, sobre todo de forma reciente, además de la constante que se ha venido implementando y desarrollando con nuestro país”.

“En nombre de nuestro Gobierno, del presidente Ortega, de la compañera vicepresidenta Rosario Murillo, también felicitar al PMA, a Miguel su representante, su Director Regional y también al equipo del PMA que trabaja aquí en Nicaragua”, refirió.

WFP ratifies support to serve families affected by hurricanes

The regional director of the World Food Program (WFP) for Latin America and the Caribbean, Miguel Barreto, is in Nicaragua and reaffirmed the commitment of that organization to continue supporting families affected by the passage of hurricanes Iota and Eta.

Barreto arrived on the morning of December 9 at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua and minutes later he held a meeting with Foreign Minister Denis Moncada Colindres.

The foreign minister said that the activity carried out by the WFP in Nicaragua has been very positive, which has to do with food security, supplies and elements necessary for the situation caused by Iota and ETA.

«Nicaragua always receives the WFP in the most fraternal, also most friendly way, and we thank them for that positive, constructive, supportive, fraternal role that Georgia, your representative here and the team, the whole team, have developed,» said Moncada.

Moncada assured that the WFP with Nicaragua maintains excellent relations, of great support and solidarity, in normal times and in emergencies and extraordinary situations such as the one caused by the two hurricanes.

«Our relationship with the WFP is a positive, very positive, very successful relationship, with much support from the WFP for Nicaragua, especially in relation to food security,» he said.

For his part, Mr. Barreto said that on Thursday they will have the opportunity to visit the areas affected by the hurricanes.

“My presence responds, not only to convey our solidarity and our commitment, but also, for me it is important because tomorrow the WFP receives the Nobel Peace Prize and being in Nicaragua in an area affected by natural disasters certainly has a double meaning for me as Regional Director and for WFP as well, showing what we do ”, he added.

Likewise, he indicated that “we are going to continue collaborating with you, we are going to continue looking for resources, to continue supporting people in need through you and in coordination with the Government we plan to work with you to be able to respond for the next 90 days there are still people affected and I will also accompany them in the recovery phase ”.

The WFP regional director said that they will also reflect the joint work that Nicaragua has had in conjunction with the Government not only in the area of ​​emergencies, but in aspects such as school feeding, which will continue in the coming years.

Congratulations on the Nobel Peace Prize

For his part, Foreign Minister Moncada congratulated the WFP for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize tomorrow, “a well-deserved award for an international organization with a great humanitarian and solidarity projection in the world, in the international field, and in Nicaragua it expresses itself in a tangible, visible, especially recently, in addition to the constant that has been implemented and developed with our country ”.

«On behalf of our Government, of President Ortega, of fellow Vice President Rosario Murillo, I also congratulate the WFP, Miguel his representative, his Regional Director and also the WFP team that works here in Nicaragua,» he said.
